Jewellery Making with Found Objects

  • Sovereign Hill Bradshaw Street Golden Point, VIC, 3350 Australia (map)

Basketry is an ancient craft that is relevant in contemporary life as it allows us to slow down and experience the satisfaction of creating something hand made. Coiling is a technique that involves wrapping or stitching an active element around a passive core. Come join us to learn how to use natural plant fibre (such as arum lily) to make a basket and acquire information about how to collect, dry and prepare plant fibre for weaving.

Coiling is a time-consuming basketry technique so you will need to take your basket home to finish at your own leisure with the assistance of a colour handout provided by the tutor.

About Your Workshop Instructor: Jodie Goldring

After completing undergraduate studies in Visual Arts, Jodie moved from Gippsland to Melbourne where she lived and worked as an Artist for over 10 years exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions. She has been teaching basketry since 2015 and believes the appeal of these workshops are that they allow participants to slow down and experience the satisfaction of creating something hand made.  In 2012, she made a ‘tree change’ to the Central Highlands of Victoria and in 2013, made the transition to Primary Art Specialist.
