Ballarat Marathon 2024
One of the host cities for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Ballarat has a rich sporting and cultural history. The BALLARAT MARATHON is designed to celebrate this. Held annually in late April, the Ballarat Marathon will be a two-day running festival, open to both elite and recreational athletes. Our event will showcase one of regional Australia’s most beautiful and historic cities, build excitement in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games and promote health and wellbeing across the community.
We are inviting elite and recreational runners to visit the city and #RUNTHERAT.
AusCycling Road National Cycling Championships 2024
2024 will see Ballarat host the AusCycling Road National Cycling Championships for the 18th consecutive year.
The championships will be held from 04 - 07 January 2024 and will see under-23, junior, club cyclists and elite riders battle it out for the right to hold the green and gold national jersey.
We look forward to seeing these stars of Australian cycling back on home soil in January, on the roads of Ballarat and surrounds.

Springfest Ballarat - Market Sunday 2023
2023 will be the 28th year of SpringFest Ballarat.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Ballarat, SpringFest has become an iconic event in Ballarat. The event hosts around 450 markets stalls, including food vendors in and around the western precinct of Lake Wendouree, From St Aidan’s Drive to Carlton Street.
Other activities on the day include, Show’n’Glow, Pets Corner, Kids Zone, Spring Garden Zone, Food and Wine Precinct, Emergency Services Zone and Indigenous Area.

Then you’ll move (either on foot or by car) to the nearby quaint and private studio of visual artist Laura Day. Continue the botanical theme by using Laura’s garden studio as the inspiration for your own abstract painting on canvas. Laura will guide you in the technique of negative space abstract painting and teach you how to use plants, leaves and natural elements as stencils for your creation.
Laura Day is a passionate painter, mixed media artist and art tutor. She holds a Diploma in Visual Arts from Victoria University and a Bachelor of Communication Design with a printmaking major at the Queensland College of Art. Laura has been in Ballarat since 2011, teaching a variety of visual art techniques to hundreds of students.

Royal South Street Competitions - Australian Calisthenics Competition 2023
Royal South Street Society’s Australian Calisthenics Competition commenced in 1903 and today is one of the largest competitions in the country and has been , attracting clubs from WA, SA, NSW, ACT, QLD and of course Victoria.
All teams competing must adhere to The Australian Calisthenic Federation Rules, which are the standard for all competitions and items throughout Australia. The Royal South Street Society is exempt from The Victorian Rules and the Guideline for Team/Solo Competitions as set by CVI.

Career chef Damien Jones is at the helm of this fine dining modern Asian offering.
He previously worked at London's Michelin-starred Nahm before opening his former hatted restaurant, Catfish Thai, in Ballarat.
Each cooking class will include lunch, with initial dates set for Sunday 3 September (Father's Day) and Friday 29 September (Grand Final public holiday).

The talented young photographer, Jett, is hosting her first photography workshop for anyone aged 16-18 who wants to learn how to photograph people or be comfortable in front of a camera!
This workshop focuses on black and white portrait photography, and offers you the opportunity to try something you may never have been able to before, for free!

Your portraits will be framed and exhibited in our Youth Space to show how amazing local young people are!

Ballarat Blues Festival 2023
“Ballarat’s Biggest ever Blues show” is set to thrill audiences the last weekend of August.
The Main Event takes place in the Wendouree Centre of Performing Arts, with music across multiple venues, the festival is a mix of ticketed, door-charge and free events.
Royal South Street Competitions - Choral Contest 2023
A choir is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. The Royal South Street Sociteyls Choral Contest include Open Age, primary and secondary choirs. Sections within the competition include show and performance choir, gospel, Christmas carols, small choral groups, acappella small choirs, community choirs for a cause, indigenous / multicultural choir sections.

CX Ballarat - AusCycling Cyclo-Cross (CX) National Championships 2023
CX Ballarat is the AusCycling cyclo-cross (CX) national championships, the pinnacle event for CX in Australia.
With races over laps of a course for riders of all ages and abilities, CX is terrific to watch and to participate in. Hugely popular in Europe for 100 years, CX is growing all around the world as riders and fans alike discover it.
Watching the event is free and there is good food, coffee and drinks on offer.
2023 State Band Championships
The VBL, in conjunction with the Royal South Street Society, is pleased to announce that the 2023 State Band Championships shall be held in Ballarat.
The adjudicator for the event will be Maureen Cameron. Maureen pursued her music education at Salford College, under the tutelage of distinguished professors such as David King, Roy Newsome, and Elgar Howarth and was one of the last students to work with the legendary Harry Mortimer OBE before completing her studies. She was a long-standing member of the world-famous Foden’s Band (England) and maintains active ties with the band. She has won most major Brass Band titles in Europe and Australia as either a player or conductor and her school ensembles have achieved considerable success in UK and Australia including performances at BBC Proms. She is currently Musical Director of ‘Women in Brass’ and is a playing member with the 2023, Champion Brass Band of Australia, Sydney City Brass.

Royal South Street Competitions - ACU Debating Cup Challenge 2023
When the South Street Young Men’s General Debating Society was established in 1879, Essays, Elocution, Readings, Lectures and Recitations were integral. Through the 1920’s and 30’s topics tended to feature the political and social issues of the day.
With then future Prime Ministers Alfred Deakin and James Scullin, the Society’s most vibrant supporters – it was surprising to see debating deleted from the 1940 competitions, however it made a triumphant return in 1977.
Since then, debating continued to grow and was further strengthened with the introduction of a Primary School Section in 2002 and in 2019, the ACU Debating Challenge Cup was contested by 78 teams and 300 competitors from 16 schools across the Ballarat district.
Royal South Street Competitions - Herald Sun Aria 2023
The Herald Sun Aria, established in 1924, is Australia’s oldest and most prestigious prize for emerging classical singers. 2021 sees the Herald Sun Aria enter its 4th year with Melbourne Opera as their official partner.
Widely regarded as the nation’s most prestigious competition for emerging opera singers, the Aria offers nearly $60,000 in cash prizes to enrich the training of our brightest talent. Entries must be aged between 19 – 36 years of age for this wonderful competition.
A night of opera – watch the drama and anticipation unfurl as five finalists compete against each other accompanied by the Melbourne Opera Orchestra under the baton of Greg Hocking.
The finalists will perform two Aria each, giving the audience an insight into various world operas as well as a night of sophisticated exhilaration. Master of Ceremonies, ABC’s Christopher Lawrence, will give a brief synopsis of each Aria. Also performing will music and voice students from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
In 2022 the Herald Sun Aria celebrates 99 years of launching the international careers of many well-known singers, including: Dame Malvina Major (1964) Dame Kiri Te Kanawa 1965), Jonathon Summers (1973), Judith Henley (1976), Roger Lemke (1985), Jason Wasley (1993), and Rachelle Durkin (2000)
Ballarat Turf Club - Horses & High Tea 2023
Join in to celebrate the Horse’s Birthday with a High Tea at Ballarat Racecourse.

Royal South Street Society’s Speech and Drama competition is renowned for providing competitors with a challenging but relaxed environment in front of outstanding adjudicators. Competitors may enter prepared readings of poetry, recitation, impromptu mime, character performance, prepared readings, poem for two, group sections and improvisation sections.
